Chasing the Rock n’ Roll Dream

Born and raised in Raleigh, NC in the year 1999, Edward Crowther is an American rock guitarist, songwriter, and occasional singer. He was raised in a traditional suburban family upbringing and was the first born in his family but growing up with only one sibling. From his birth year till the year 2016, Edward had not yet developed his musical taste until he heard one song that changed everything. One evening while doing homework, he heard on the radio the song “Modern Jesus” by indie rock band Portugal. The Man, and in that moment, Edward knew he had to pickup music. This would translate into him picking up guitar making him the first musician in his family, influenced by the front man of Portugal. The Man, John Gourley.

That following summer, Edward would spend his time down in Davis, NC where he would receive his first guitar from his grandparent’s church. It was an acoustic tobacco burst that hadn’t been played in years and was collecting dust. While most guitarist were interested in learning their favorite riffs, Edward was different. He immediately took to attempting to write his own originals, which is where his passion for creating originated from. By the end of the summer, Edward had mastered the essential concepts to the guitar being fully self taught.

Following his 2016 summer, Edward returned from Davis, NC to his hometown of Raleigh, NC where he took root to creating his first band, which would end up being called Burban (the “Band”), a 4 to 5 piece hard rock group influenced from his classic rock influences. The Band would go on to perform frequently in Raleigh, NC at venues such as the Pour House, Deep South the Bar, the Black Flower, and Imurj the Bar, creating a regional buzz, largely driven by Edward’s instantly recognizable guitar sound, creative songwriting and melodies, as well as as his memorable stage presence. Burban would exists from 2017 until 2021 being based mostly in Raleigh, NC and then in Boone, NC later in the Band’s life. Within that time, Edward would spearhead the Band’s first EP “Shot of Rock,” which featured break out tracks such as “She’s Hungry” and “Reckoning.” Furthermore, Edward would drive the Band to release a follow on of singles including songs like “Dead As Bones”, “See Through You,” “All Dressed Up (With No Where To Go),” and breakout ballad hit titled “October Love.” After amassing 30,000 streams, Burban would eventually end in Boone, NC after receiving harsh criticism in the media leaving Edward lost with his artistic identity and future in music.

Naturally handling all of the business needs and song writing work for Burban, Edward naturally progressed into the next phase of his career as a solo artist. He would release his first single “Who the Hell (You Think You Are)” in June of 2021, which was layered with his iconic guitar playing largely influenced by classic rock greats from the past. Edward’s sound would continue to evolve with breakout singles like “Snake Groove,” “Mystery,” and ultimately hit song “California Cruisin’” striking a meaningful independent success for Edward and his career. Wanting to showcase his diverse sonic capabilities and expand his catalog, Edward in 2024 would release singles “High School Fever,” which features his pop-punk influences and acoustic track “Twenty,” which is the only song Edward sings on in his catalog and takes inspiration from folk rock inspired artists. Edward to date has released seven singles with his latest installment being hard rock hit “Sunshine.” Since starting his solo career in 2021, he’s amassed well over 90,000 streams worldwide, a growing following of over 5,000 fans, performed on iconic stages such as Amos’ Southend, Smokey Joe’s, and Petra’s Bar, and continues to be a defying force in the rock genre, largely known for his signature guitar work and style.
